Edmonton, AB – May 23, 2024 – A family in Northwest Edmonton grieves the loss of their 15-year-old son, Broden Radomske, after a fatal attack on Tuesday evening.
The family carved a cross into a tree near the scene of the crime, located at 137th Avenue and 184th Street, south of St. Albert. A message of condolence has also been added.
Broden’s mother, who wished to remain anonymous but spoke to various news stations, described her son as brave. She said in a statement, “I am completely devastated losing Broden. He was my first child and my best friend.”
Medical supplies were left behind at the scene where paramedics attempted to save Broden’s life.
Edmonton Police confirm they apprehended a suspect shortly after the incident. The victim’s mother has confirmed that the suspect was known to them and had been walking with them at the time of the attack. Police have identified the suspect as 40-year-old Keith James Landry. He has been charged with second-degree murder.
Broden was a grade nine student at Lorne Akins School in St. Albert. The school lowered flags in his honor and announced counselors are available to support students struggling with the loss.
“All children grieve in different ways and some may take some time before they’re ready to talk to someone about this,” the school’s statement reads. “Our staff are trained to watch for signs that children might need extra support.”
Broden’s mother expressed concern for his friends, classmates, and teammates, many of whom may be experiencing their first loss. “I want kids to be kind and take care of one another,” she said.
An autopsy for Broden is scheduled for Friday.
This is a developing story. Urban Edmonton will continue to provide updates as they become available.
